iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, macOS Monterey system requirements

You can use your iPhones longer because Apple makes both the hardware and the software of your device.

Apple today announced the latest operating system for all of its platforms during WWDC. Apple supports older phone models due to the robustness of its custom Apple Silicon Chips. This can mean a longer than usual return of investment for your device.

Android however offers just three year support for its handset. Part of this can be attributed to Apple designing both the hardware and the software experience.

For iOS 15 here are the devices that are compatible:

  • iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone SE (2nd Generation)
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 Mini

For iPadOS 15, here are the list of the devices that are compatible:

  • iPad Mini 4
  • iPad Mini (5th Generation)
  • iPad (5th – 8th Generation)
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Air (3rd and 4th Generation)
  • All models of iPad Pro

For watchOS 8, here are the list of compatible devices:

  • Apple Watch SE
  • Apple Watch Series 3 and later

For macOS Monterey, the following models of Mac are compatible:

You can find out what model your Mac is by clicking on the Apple Logo on the upper right hand corner of the screen and selecting About This Mac.
