The battle for listening supremacy goes on between Apple and streaming music pioneer Spotify.

Spotify is already preparing to launch a paid podcast subscription service and is testing it to a small subset of users.

Following Apple’s announcement of paid subscription podcast, Spotify plans to close the gap by introducing a competing service as part of it’s continued expansion of non-music service. According to an article published by the Wall Street Journal, Spotify will be using a different revenue model by not charging a fee or taking a revenue cut.

Unnamed sources familiar with the plans told the Wall Street Journal that Spotify will allow podcast creators to set their own pricing. Once the service is available, users of Spotify’s iOS app will eventually pay for the subscription service.

Podcasts is one of the medium that has exploded in popularity during the lockdown along with movie streaming services.

We reached out for a comment with Spotify and the company spokesman confirmed that the podcast service is indeed in the works and will launch in the coming few months.
