Not all water bottles are created equal. This one is the water bottle that's made for on the go life in the age of coronavirus.

We used to live in a world where water bottles are mere accessories to drinking on the go. Or where you fill it at home and bring it to work to save on plastic and the environment. Times have changed so fast and water bottles are now sold with the label “smart” just like how TVs nowadays are being sold. This smart water bottle has a built in purification process that cleans the water we drink. And it does so on the go without the need for any connected power source or boiling it at 100°C.

Features and Design

It all starts with the fancy proprietary charger that connects magnetically to the top of the water bottle via USB that offers 30 days of battery life. The magnetic charging process is quite fancy sort of like the old MagSafe chargers on MacBook Pros. I still prefer that it be made of micro-USB or even USB-C though as losing it will mean shopping for another cord to buy. The glowing cap lets you know about the charging status.

After that using it is like using a typical water bottle. You just fill it with your favorite beverage and it harnesses the power of light to disinfect. Just press the UV logo on top of the bottle, and voila! Your water become clean and ready to drink in 10 seconds! Philips says that it eliminates up to 99.999% of bacteria and 99.9% of viruses. So I guess the coronavirus plaguing the world has only 0.1% chance of surviving this bottle. It also maintains pureness of the water by shining a light on your beverage every 2 hours automatically.

The Philips GoZero Smart Bottle comes in two colors – Matte Black and Sunshine Yellow. The BPA free leak proof double insulated bottle keeps the beverage hot for 12 hours and cold beverage can for 24 hours. It is dishwasher safe except for the cap where the electronics are located.

The 20oz water bottle is well built and has a handle at the top made of sturdy plastic that you can clip on your backpack that’s good for hikes. I think one good use for this bottle is during long hikes, you just need a source of fresh water and it can instantly purify your drinking water.

Final Impression

In the world of high technology, and in the age where we begin to be so conscious of the things we didn’t really care too much about in the last few years – like how air purifiers are a hot thing now for a lot of people. Where air is now calculated in – AQI, PMs, VOCs at the comfort of our homes – particulates that are invisible to us except to the devices we buy. Fancy names for things I never heard of growing up. It wouldn’t be a surprise if water bottles of the future will be able to calculate too what’s on our water, and come up with new fancy vocabularies for us to learn.

Does it clean the water well? I don’t know. This is not a scientific review. Just like the air we breathe, it’s hard to quantify something we can’t see. But if the water bottle does exactly what it says it does, then I think it’s something that is worth buying.
