How to install software updates for your HomePod or HomePod Mini

Apple regularly improves its HomePod and HomePod mini speakers over time through over-the-air software updates. While HomePod will, by default, automatically download future updates, you can also use the Home app on an iPhone, iPad, and Mac to install them manually.

What’s new in version 14.4

The current latest version is 14.4 which includes bug fixes and new features with an Ultra Wideband (U1) equipped iPhone. It brings beautiful visual, audible, and prominent haptic effects when songs are being transferred from one device to another. Personalized listening suggestions are also designed to appear on the iPhone when next to the HomePod mini, complete with instant controls that are available without having to unlock the iPhone. Furthermore, U1 chips lets devices better understand where they are in relation to one another. We can’t wait for what other things the U1 chip can bring in the future.

Follow the steps below to update your HomePod on your own.

How to manually install software updates for your HomePod

  1. Launch the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap the House icon.
  3. Tap Home Settings.
  1. Tap Software Update.
  2. Flip the switch off next to Install Updates Automatically if this is your first time updating your HomePod.
  3. Tap Install if an update is available.

If you have multiple HomePod speakers in your home, the software update will be downloaded and applied to all of them at the same time so that you don’t have to update each HomePod individually.
